Giant oaks once graced thousands of acres in McHenry County during the time Abraham Lincoln was a young lawyer. In celebration of his 200th birthday, the McHenry County Lincoln Bicentennial Committee is planting a mixture of White and Burr Oak saplings on public property throughout McHenry County.
McHenry County Government will be planting two giant oak saplings, along with special plaque to commemorate the planting and significance of the majestic trees, in front of its Administration building on 667 Ware Road in Woodstock. A dedication ceremony will take place Tuesday, October 6th at 11:30 am, following the County Board meeting (rain date: Wednesday, October 7th).
The planting of the two giant oak saplings is part of the “Plant a Giant Oak” program through the McHenry County Lincoln Bicentennial Committee to help restore the majestic oak, a part of the history of McHenry County.
